A Kenyan-built AI tutor for Junior Secondary classrooms. Installed from a USB drive. Works offline. Free for public schools, supported by partners and grants.

What it does

An AI tutor that asks, explains, and re-explains — patiently — in English and Kiswahili. Adaptive practice, worked solutions, and a teacher dashboard for class oversight.

For whom

Junior Secondary learners (Grade 7–9). Designed for crowded classrooms in rural and peri-urban Kenya. Pilot launches at Kuriot JSS in Cherangany, Trans Nzoia.

How it's delivered

A USB-drive install onto existing classroom laptops or Chromebooks. No internet, no accounts, no cloud. Athena trains a local install champion at each school.

Pilot programme

We are selecting three Junior Secondary schools for a one-year founding pilot beginning September 2026. One school is confirmed (Kuriot JSS, Cherangany, Trans Nzoia). Two slots remain. Selection criteria include curriculum fit, school readiness, and geographic spread across regions.
